Acting School – English2021-09-08T13:05:19-04:00

OVERVIEW

The School of Acting for the Screen is dedicated to equipping Christians, spiritually and professionally, to effectively carry out the craft of acting for the screen in a way that is inspirational and missional, telling powerful stories and positively influencing society, as well as the film industry.

Beyond the technique and skills we equip actors with, we also journey with them in spiritual growth towards personal maturity, emotional wholeness and a worldview that inspires them to care for people, serve and see God’s purposes accomplished through their lives.

Though it is our aim to prepare the actor for the film medium, our curriculum is designed to equip for theatre acting as well, since  most actors end up doing both film and theatre.

HANDS ON

Our high quality curriculum is combined with plenty of opportunities for our students to act. Because that’s how actors become great in their craft: by acting! Beyond the weekly scene study and rehearsals, acting students spend a total of 2 weeks acting on film sets. Actors learn how to explore a scene and a script in ways that enable them to bring a story and character to life with depth and authenticity, developing their personal actor toolbox in the process.

Our teachers themselves are involved in the industry, both mainstream and independent, offering our students insight into the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead of them.

Hi! My name is Heidi, and I co-lead the Acting School here at YWAM Dunham. Originally from Virginia, I did my DTS in 2005 in Malaysia. I grew up in the acting world of theater and have been passionate about filmmaking, performing arts, and writing since I was young. In 2015, I moved with my husband to Kona, Hawaii where we staffed the film & acting schools and in 2018, we joined the team at YWAM Dunham. We have four amazing kids who keep us on our toes as we pursue the craft of storytelling through film and acting. As a school leader, I love helping students grow in their craft of acting and heart for the film industry. I look forward to hearing your story!

Hello! My name is Alaia, I co-lead the school with Heidi at YWAM Dunham. I was born and raised in Spain, and in 2017 I went to YWAM Boston to do a DTS and a Bible school. After that I felt lead to Canada to do the acting school and have been staff since then. I fell in love with acting at a young age, and started pursuing it as a teenager. It’s become a passion and focus for me ever since! I long to see people walk in greater freedom through this art, and to create beautiful stories. I’m passionate about creativity in all forms, whether it’s dance, music or creating beautiful meals. I look forward to meeting you and to witness your creativity grow!
